Well, hello, friends. This is Kimberly. It's episode 361, and I'm so glad that you're here today. Y'all know on all the previous episodes, we're always talking about how-tos and and what to do and should you start this? Like last week, I was talking about, you know, should you sell physical products or not? But this week, I want to talk about that thing underneath it all. What to do when you're standing at the front of a brand new chapter in your stomach is literally in your throat. Like you're so nervous. Maybe you're scared. Maybe you are somewhat optimistic. Maybe this new chapter is something that you're choosing. Maybe it's something that's been forced upon you, or it's just something that's been inevitable, right? Today we're going to talk about this and how to really see that these new chapters can be the best season of your life if you let it. If you're new here, I'm so thankful that you landed on this podcast. I have no doubt that it's going to inspire you and motivate you. Whether you're thinking about starting a business, you're building a business, you don't have a business and you just love positive talk, then this podcast is for you.

Why New Chapters Feel So Hard
SPEAKER_00
There's always some type of new chapter. I truly believe that when we hit new chapters, we can be so scared in our life that we don't fully, what's the word? We don't fully get out of new chapters and new seasons what we could. Because our brain gets in the way, our heart gets in the way, our emotions get in the way, and we don't sometimes know how to approach a new chapter or season. So this could be anything for you. Maybe it's you're retiring. Maybe it's you've moved. Maybe you're starting a business, starting a podcast, starting a YouTube channel, right? Or you're like me, starting an online gift boutique, right? Maybe you've had to change careers. Maybe you're going back to school. Maybe you've just had a child. Maybe you've just had a grandchild. Maybe you have gotten a divorce. Maybe something has happened where you've been thrown into a new chapter. Again, it could be something that is inevitable, like your age, right? It's inevitable. You turn 50, God willing, right? You turn 50, you turn 60, whatever, right? Or maybe it's something that you chose to do, like you chose to go ahead and retire from a job. I have a friend that was a teacher and she just retired and she kind of chose to go ahead and do it. And she's gonna sub for a little while, but you can see it all in her head about the retirement and how exciting it is, but yet kind of the uh trepidation about it, because you're like, okay, what am I doing? And maybe something was forced upon you. Something happened in your life, and you just now you're in a new season. Something, something hard happened, whatever it may be, right? Maybe it's something good that happened and you didn't expect it either. It's like something completely unexpected, and you're like, okay, yeah, maybe I'm gonna do this. Okay. Whatever it is, we need to enter these seasons with intention so that we don't miss what's so amazing about embarking on a new season and about who we're gonna be become through this new season. Do you realize when you enter like this new chapter begins, right? You enter it and then you're now in this season. Do you realize that you're becoming someone new? I mean, I can think back to the past years and how my life has been shaped, things that have happened. Um, you know, we can all agree COVID changed all of us. That's one season we all went through that was unexpected, that was thrown onto all of us, right? And we entered a new season, maybe with our job that we were working from home now or we lost our job or whatever, right? I started this podcast right before COVID, end of 2019. And, you know, we didn't know COVID was coming, but that was a new chapter for me, starting a podcast. I'd just been running my online gift boutiques for years and years while I was at home with my children, right? So that I didn't have to go to work. I could be my own boss and set my schedule and all that stuff. And I think about the season of like my youngest daughter is a senior in high school, right? Like her high school season and getting ready for college. That's a season. When she goes off to college and we're empty nesters, that's gonna be another season. Like, y'all, we completely have seasons. Or should I say, we continually have seasons. Like seasons keep happening, right? Seasons keep happening. Think about your life. Again, there's stuff that was inevitable, like age. There was stuff that was unexpected, maybe losing a job, COVID, something like that. Something shifted. Or maybe it was something that you chose. So even though it's scary, we are going to be intentional. But how do we do that so that we can really enjoy the season ahead and get the most out of it?
Fear Versus Excitement In Your Body
SPEAKER_00
So I do know one thing that when we get scared from a change, our body physically reacts. Our mind reacts, and we kind of get that nervous feeling, and we may feel weird walking around. But don't you realize that the excitement that you can have from things in life kind of do the same thing. You're walking around, you're preoccupied, you're excited, maybe you feel butterflies in your stomach. Like it kind of affects our body in a very similar way. Maybe you can't sleep, maybe you don't really have an appetite, you're running around like a crazy person and you're excited. Um and I think that's great that we're excited, but a lot of times we let the fear take over and we're not really present and realizing how beautiful the season can be. It's just like when seasons change. Like if you live in an area of the United States where you actually have four seasons here in Texas, we don't really, we kind of have two. It's hot in the summer and then it's just kind of middle of the road. It gets cold maybe a little bit in January and February, but you know, we're back again to the warmth after that in the 80s. But if you have four seasons, you know these seasons. Like you get excited. You can feel like when fall is coming and the leaves are starting to drop and it's getting dark earlier, and it's just getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas and lattes and all the stuff, right? And we get excited, but we can start running around, we can start finding, we can find ourselves running around ragged because we're like, you know, having to do this and that. But sometimes we miss, like after Christmas, have you ever done that? And like everyone opens the gifts and all that, and you're like, wait, where did all this go? Was I present? Or like I remember my mom saying at my wedding, the wedding went by so fast. Like the end of the night, we had already, my husband and I had, you know, exited the reception and she's like, I missed it. I missed it. Everyone's throwing flowers and she was somewhere else. And it's like, that's what happens sometimes is that we can miss what is there to enjoy because we're so busy doing stuff, even if it's a good thing, right? What I find is that most women can miss their best season at some point in their lives. They can miss it. They just don't notice it until it's over. And I don't want that to happen to
Name The Chapter Out Loud
SPEAKER_00
you. I want you to see it now. So we've got kind of four things here for you to think about today. Whatever new chapter you're in, you're in. Again, it could be a business, it could be career, it could be moving, it could be starting some new hobby. Maybe you're making new friend groups, you're starting to go to church more, you start a Bible study, whatever it may be, right? Okay, so here's what to do so that you can be present and enjoy it while it's happening. Number one is name that chapter out loud. This new season, this new chapter, like what is it? Because sometimes when you don't name it, it actually just feels like chaos and it feels scarier because it's like this thing, right? So when we name it, it kind of feels like more of a decision. Like this is my year of what? Now I've heard other people do this on New Year's. They're like, you know, it's kind of like the Chinese New Year where they or they have a name. They go to the lion, the year of the lion, or the year of whatever, right? And you can say that if you want to. But I think really going deeper and saying, I'm starting a new chapter again, whether you chose it or not, what is this new chapter? What is this chapter? You get to write it. You get to name it. I think that's the other thing with naming it is you don't realize that you actually have control over this. What is this new season? Like, let's get your head in the game. What are you naming it and claim it? And like, this is my time. Whatever it is for you, retiring, starting a new job, graduating from college, whatever it is, right? So that's number one. Name the chapter out loud and even tell someone. Tell someone like this is my new chapter. And what is the chapter? You name it, you pick it up because you're being intentional about this new season. Okay.
Decide What You Won’t Bring
SPEAKER_00
Number two, decide what you're not going to bring to this new chapter. This is a part nobody does. We just think, okay, it's the year of the lion, it's the year of me being brave, it's the year of me going out and meeting people. I mean, I've done that before where I'm like, okay, this is a year I need to be a lot more social because when you run your own business from home, it tends to kind of keep you at home. And I'm just going to be honest, that's why we've loved pickleball. And we got involved too. And I was like, it's coming, yay. A way we can make more friends and it forces me to get out. Right. But decide what you're not bringing. Not what you are doing, but what you're not doing. A new chapter is like that one moment in your life where you're allowed to set things down and nobody questions it. Like you can leave something behind old routines, old obligations, things that weighed you down, the version of you that was for last season, but now there's a new version of you. I'm not saying you're a totally different person now. I'm just saying you're a person with intention and you're coming into this new season. Like, what did the last season need from me that this one does not? Maybe you're changing the way you run your business, right? What is the thing that I'm going to leave behind because I don't need it now in this season? New chapters aren't just what you add because we're all trying to do all this new stuff in our new season and like change what we're doing, and maybe your schedule, maybe it's just a sleep schedule or whatever it is. They're what you finally get to put down. You get to put down something that feels heavy or no longer really relevant to who you are becoming now in this new season. So think about it for you. What is this new season? Again, maybe it's a season of new friend groups, uh focusing on your faith, going back to school, choosing a new career path, putting yourself out there more, calling people more, getting off social media, starting a business, building a business, expanding your business, which is what I'm doing. I'm in a new season. What am I putting down from last season? I'm putting down, I mean, now that I'm sitting here thinking about what am I putting down from last season? I think it's I'm putting down the thought that I have to be everything and do everything in my business, like every single thing, and I need to be all of it. I've been pretty focused over the years, but I think all last year when I was thinking about starting this boutique and getting my journal written and doing all of that, I still felt pressure to do more things for coaching women, which I absolutely love to do, but I feel this pressure in my field. Like you need to have a group program, you should be doing retreats, you should be doing all these things and speaking all the time and doing all this. And I think I felt a lot of that. And that is awesome because I think it's good. But I realized writing this journal and all this was so important to me to be able to support people like you with tangible goods that I can put down that feeling that I haven't done it all or that I'm not doing it all. Like I don't need to have that pressure. I can build my own lane with my business. And I'm doing that. I'm building my own lane that fits right now. I may have group programs coming up again. I may be able to do all these things. And I tell myself that, and that's great. I just feel the pressure lifted off that right now. I can focus on this journal, which to me was like super important. I want to get this in the hands of all of you listening. I really do. All of you that are thinking about starting a business or building a business, because I know it'll change how you approach everything. And we'll talk about it later when it comes out. Hopefully in November it'll be here. But that's where I'm at personally, like letting go of a pressure that I don't need to have because I am pursuing a part of my business that's been very important. Right. So, what is it for you in your life? Okay, so that's number two. So let's review before we go on to number three. Number one was name the chapter out loud. Like, what is this chapter? You get to name it. It's not naming itself. You are naming it. Number two, decide what you're not bringing to this. The pressure, the heaviness, the feeling that you're not good enough, smart enough. Maybe you don't have to do it all. Maybe you don't have to deal with someone anymore and you're you're taking a new path. You don't have to have a boss that you didn't like, and now you're starting a new chapter with a new job. Like things like that. Okay. So that's
Choose The One Thing This Season Is For
SPEAKER_00
number two. Number three, pick one thing that this season is actually for. What is this season for? I know we named it, but what is it for? Many women I know get to this and say, oh, it's for this, this, this, this, this, and it's like five things. And I'm like, oh my God, oh my goodness. Okay, that's a lot. Um, pick one. Everything else is allowed to be maintenance for a while. Like you can take this fresh start, this new chapter, this new season by doing one thing. It's kind of like me with the boutique. It's just like one thing. Like, get the journal, get some things up on the boutique that that you know will help people and inspire people. And that feels good. Everything else is allowed to be maintenance for a while. Having all these priorities isn't really a season. It's just a busy, busy year. Like if you do a million things, it just becomes a busy year. You're trying to pick one thing for the season. Now, again, people do this like at the beginning of the year, they're like, this is my year of resilience, or this is my year of um, you know, friendship or whatever it is. And what happens is those are good. Those are good. I think that is good. And you can do that by picking one word if you want. But I think what I'm really trying to steer you away from is having like a whole bunch of things. Because I think it clouds what you're actually trying to do. And when you have like kind of one thing that this year is for, what is it for? Because it's gonna guide everything. Right? What is it for? So that's number three. So again, number one is name the chapter out loud. Number two is decide what you're not going to bring to this new season or chapter. Number three is pick one thing the season is for. What is this season really for? And number four, don't do it quietly.
Don’t Go Quiet, Find Community
SPEAKER_00
I think our instincts are just to go silent because we want to make sure it works. Like we're nervous, we're nervous what people think. What if it doesn't succeed? We'll be embarrassed. I mean, I've thought about that with my gift boutique. But who's rating me? I'm the only one that's rating me. I'm rating me by revenue or, you know, people telling me that they love the journals and the cards and the things that I'm creating. But if you do it quietly because you don't want to tell anyone, that's how you get lonely. That's how you just end up in your own little bubble. And you need to tell people, yeah, I'm so excited. I'm doing this, that. Yeah. Even if it's something hard, like you got a divorce, I got a divorce, but I'm in a new season, and um I know that God has a plan. And I'm going forward, and you're thinking in your mind the name of the chapter, what you're not gonna bring. The one big thing about this season, you're telling people, you're putting yourself out there, you're being vulnerable, because when you do that, other people will do it too, and you'll realize that everyone's embarking on a new chapter, on a new season. It it never stops. I think we all think that we just like are a beginner once in our life. And it's so not true. When you're an adult, you're starting new things a lot. At my age, 54, you're starting new things, right? You're meeting new people, you're joining new groups, you're starting new fitness programs, you're retiring, you're having a grandchild, you're, you know, you're a mother-in-law, whatever it is. You're starting new things that you may not be that good at in the beginning, but you're doing it anyway. And I don't think you should be quiet about it. I think you should be excited because when you do that, it starts changing your body's energy for how you approach this new season. So again, one more time, all four of them. Name the chapter. Number one, name it out loud. Number two, decide what you're not bringing. Number three, pick one thing this season is for. Number four, don't do it quietly. God did not create us to do things alone. He created us to have community and fellowship and friendship. The reason you'll know it was your best season is that you noticed it while it was happening. I don't want you to be like those other women out there that then look back and go, Oh, yeah, that was an amazing season. I didn't realize it. You need to know now that this has the potential to be a fabulous season. And maybe it won't be your most amazing season yet, but maybe it'll be pretty good. And you have that ability. So, y'all, I'm so excited for you. I'm so happy. Whatever season you're embarking on, tell me if you

Remember, too, by the way, that scary and awesome can be in your body at the same time. Same time. But we don't want that to be that way. We don't want you to be scary. We want you to be the most awesome version of yourself. You just need to decide which one you're standing out. That's it. Okay, so I'm so excited. You're gonna have a great season and have a wonderful day until next time.
